Use it or lose it???

The importance of Natural technique, or Natural Movements are more important for more than just being something that is Human Species specific...

Remember that when you train hours and hours on a technique that sticks with you forever, and it comes out instinctually in a high stress/pressure situation, that is a Natural Technique, not a "Technique made Natural" but a Natural Technique because it's motions are part of your natural human movement - movement's that are a refined/efficient version of what a toddler is capable of doing even in a raw form. For example, kicking to the head is not something a toddler could do naturally, or even at best a mediocre state; therefore...not something Innate or Natural; which is why in high pressure, surprised situations you don't see high kicks coming out by highly trained individuals when caught off guard in an ambush attack, or in a REAL street fight that starts with people jawing at each other, or out of no where more than one opponent attacks you. Kicking high is just not natural; therefore cannot be something that comes out instinctually. Running or crawling for their life to escape a dangerous situation? That's something even a Toddler could do! The Powerline Motion (which is a foundational self-defense movement) is something my 3-year-old son can do, and something I see other toddlers doing when they're running!

Natural techniques once learned and ingrained stick with you forever! But the conditioning that allows one to sustain endurance to execute the repetitiveness of that technique for long periods of time does NOT always last forever. So "Use it or lose it" is only applicable to conditioning regards to endurance of technique...but natural technique once learned to do efficiently will always be there!

  1. Totally agree, nothing better than knowing natural technique. And it is just a matter of time you will learn it and remember it forever
