Assisting at a MovNat 1-day Workshop

Early in July, MovNat sent Certification Team Instructor Brian Tabor to Seattle to host one of its final 1-day fundamental workshops by a member of MovNat’s main Instructor team.
All 1-day Fundamental workshops will be hosted & conducted by MovNat Certified Trainers, like myself, starting August and onward. MovNat’s main Instructor team will then begin only offering 2-day specialty workshops known as “Power & Grace” in replacement of their part in offering “Fundamental workshops”.

In a 1-day Fundamental workshop, participants are given an opportunity to have an extensive introduction to 10 of 13 movement competency skills covered in the MovNat’s Physical Education system. Participants are introduced to MovNat’s philosophies and drills that improve both awareness and efficiency in walking, balancing, lifting, carrying, throwing, catching, crawling, jumping, climbing & running. Students are encouraged to ask questions on not just how to perform technique, but other methods of improving one’s competency in the movement skills.

This past Fundamental workshop Brian Tabor offered the opportunity to both Cody Moss, Emily Johnson (of Portland, OR) & myself to come assist him in West Seattle’s Lincoln Park. The assisting turned into more than just making sure the 14 participants were getting quality attention, though. We were also able to teach a movement skill each. Emily taught crawling (which included rolling), I taught jumping & landing techniques, and Cody taught Efficient running.

Lot’s of fun were had by all as we coined the term “Jurassic Park-our”, witnessed connecting with not just nature…but a squirrel, and climbed “Joey’s pole” – haha, that still sounds bad.
